about

The second instalment of the 'What Made 'Em Think' series.

Lending my thoughts to this deeply soulful instrumental produced by Serf Productions. Speaking on how poorly we've acted in the past as a collective and how poorly we still continue to act today.

Also, are most of us just hypocrites?

lyrics

"Listen, it’s The Inglorious Poet
Serf on production...What made us think?"

Yo, what made us think that it was good for the race, to capture fellow brothers and sisters, lock up em in chains?

Boats flocking, no stopping, chopping across them waves,
been shocking in our ways, when there was profit there to gain,

Made to slave with no pay and that’s logically insane,
our ancestors obviously they’re gone and tossing in the grave,

Sugar, Tobacco, harvesting Coffee, and picking Cotton,
Colonies sent to get the monopolies to prop up these economies,

But it’s still happening today, sons are stolen from Africa,
beaten and sold, it’s leaving me cold, I just can’t handle the,

Negative images, that I’m seeing here from Libya,
that truth is dispiriting, just all too familiar,

But now hidden from visions, mostly now living in prisons,
or with kids pocketing pittance, so the rich can profit off products they give us,

It’s injust... And I wanna shift it, stop this division,
in my city, Colston got toppled, he gone swimming...

"They got rid of him.

Listen, This shit's messed up for real"

And now’s not the time to be hesitant, when addressing this Elephant,
nobody’s better than with or without that melanin,

We all the same under this skin, but we forgetting it,
trace back to the same place, we connected but we forgetting it,

All that hate and that prejudice, passed down by menaces,
who used people for their benefits, shit’s dark like December kid,

And I can’t make sense of it, hard to grasp like speech impediments,
no defending it, don’t get Terry (John) with this systemic shit,

You’ve been brainwashed to think, programmed to believe,
honestly we brothers and sisters no matter the creed,

I never want to see another hue-man hang from a tree,
I never wanna see another hue-man shout “I can’t breathe”,

At hands of police or any blatant racist that displays this,
kind of hatred and acts on that madness belief,

That any race supreme, make me want to shatter that screen,
of my Apple, no Adam and Eve, but man dismantle that Tree...

"So we can be,
So we can be free from all the evil that's surrounded us since the beginning of time...This shit’s deep".

What made us think that we could do that?
What made us think that we still can?

"Listen, it’s crazy to me because I can’t believe this shit still goes on today.
And I feel like most of us are hypocrites, because I know we don’t openly support it, but conveniently we'll ignore it. Poor kids in the sweatshops and out in the mines of Congo, with no masks as they grab that cobalt.
But still we go and buy those brands, Electric cars and smartphones...It’s dark yo".
